Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has finally revealed the conditions that could make him leave the NNPP for another political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interaction with his supporters on Thursday, the former Kano State Governor said he is open to joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) again, but only if there is a solid agreement that he and his political structure will be valued.
Why He Left APC and PDP
Kwankwaso, who reminded Nigerians that he was among the founding leaders of the APC, lamented that under former President Muhammadu Buhari, his camp was sidelined despite their contributions to the party’s victory in 2015.
“If you say we should join APC, we agree to it, but tell us what the NNPP will get. Don’t take us back to when we were neglected. During APC’s 8 years under Buhari, we were not given anything, not even a thank you,” he said.
The politician also explained why he dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), noting that he was not accorded respect or given any significant role within the party.
Now A Valued Political Figure
Kwankwaso boasted that after leaving both parties, his political value has increased. According to him, no serious political conversation in Nigeria can happen without his name being mentioned.
He stressed that while he is not in a hurry to dump the NNPP, he is ready to work with any party — including the PDP or APC — provided there are clear promises and transparent agreements.
“We are not in a hurry to leave NNPP; we’re happy here. However, if anyone wants to work with us truthfully, without abandoning us as before, we are ready,” he declared.
The 2027 election permutations are already gaining momentum, and Kwankwaso’s latest comments may fuel more speculations about possible alliances in the months to come.
