House of Representatives member and NNPP chieftain Abdulmumin Jibrin has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu lacks support in northern Nigeria, warning that such assumptions are a “dangerous calculation.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Jibrin stressed that Tinubu still enjoys significant backing in the region despite opposition voices.
“Tinubu is not an orphan in the north. He has people in the north… as much as you have people who want him out, you also have people who want him in,” he said.
Jibrin also rejected the notion that the North has been politically short-changed, pointing out its history of holding power longer than the South. He argued that the region should allow the South to complete its eight years in office.

On NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso, Jibrin revealed that discussions about him joining the ruling APC remain open, though vested interests in Kano politics could be delaying the move.
Addressing insecurity, Jibrin defended Tinubu, stating: “To blame him for the North’s security challenges is false.”
Confident in Tinubu’s political strength, Jibrin predicted the president would win re-election in 2027, regardless of opposition coalitions forming against him.
