Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly dismissed speculations that he plans to replace his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Commissioners at the Government House in Makurdi on Monday, Governor Alia described the rumours as false, baseless, and politically motivated.
“There is no vacancy for any Deputy Governor in 2027. I have a Deputy Governor who understands governance, who is people-oriented, and who works tirelessly for the people. He is very cerebral,” Alia declared.
The governor’s remarks come amid weeks of widespread speculations within Benue’s political circles suggesting that he was shopping for a replacement deputy in preparation for the next election cycle.
Reiterating his confidence in Dr. Sam Ode’s loyalty and competence, Alia emphasized that his Deputy has continued to demonstrate strong leadership, people-centered governance, and unwavering support for his administration’s vision.
“My Deputy is very capable. He has all it takes to perform his functions. He understands what is good for Benue, and that is exactly what he is doing. So if anybody is eating and dreaming Deputy, there is no vacancy,” Alia stated firmly.
Governor Alia also highlighted the cordial and productive relationship he shares with his Deputy, describing it as both professional and personal.
“I love him, I enjoy working with him. I enjoy a personal relationship with him, so for those wishing the negativity, they won’t have their way,” he added.
With this declaration, Governor Alia has effectively put to rest ongoing political speculations, reaffirming his trust and partnership with Dr. Sam Ode as Benue State moves toward its development agenda.
