The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan will face certain defeat in the 2027 presidential election, regardless of the political platform he chooses.
This assertion was made by the APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, in response to widespread speculations that Jonathan may align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 polls.
According to reports, Jonathan recently intensified his political engagements, meeting with Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Abuja on September 12. He later held discussions with ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and other coalition leaders on September 25. However, Jonathan has yet to officially declare his political intentions.
Speaking with The Punch, Ibrahim recalled that the APC defeated Jonathan in 2015 despite the then-president’s strong belief in the power and stability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Our party defeated him when he was full of confidence in the PDP, and the PDP was full of confidence in itself — so much that it thought it would rule Nigeria for 60 years,” Ibrahim said.
“How can our party not beat him now that he has lost confidence in that party and has joined a party that has no bearing at all?” he added.
The APC spokesperson further maintained that the ADC lacks the organizational strength to challenge the ruling party.
“Beating him will be easy because the ADC is not organised. With the overwhelming support of Nigerians that we enjoy, the APC will defeat him in the 2027 race regardless of his political party,” Ibrahim concluded.
