2026 WCQ: Hugo Broos: Bafana Bafana Deserve to Be at the World Cup

Bafana Bafana head coach, Hugo Broos, has expressed strong confidence in his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, insisting that South Africa has earned the right to compete on the world stage after two years of consistent effort and determination.

Speaking ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers, Broos said his players have shown resilience, growth, and quality—attributes that make them worthy of a World Cup spot.

The South African national team assembled on Monday morning in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, as preparations intensified for their upcoming fixtures. Bafana Bafana are set to face Zimbabwe in a home qualifier at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Friday, 10 October 2025, before wrapping up their campaign by hosting Rwanda at the Mbombela Stadium, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday, 14 October 2025.

Both matches are scheduled for 18h00 (6:00 PM local time).

“There are no doubts—there have never been any doubts from my side,” Broos said confidently in an interview published on SAFA.net. “I believe in this group, and I’m sure they will do everything in their power to win that game on Friday.”

The Belgian tactician emphasized that his team has proven their worth throughout the qualification rounds, urging both players and fans to remain confident.

“Why should we doubt ourselves now after our performances in the qualifiers? If there is a team that deserves to go to the World Cup, it is South Africa,” Broos declared.

Under Broos, Bafana Bafana have enjoyed a resurgence in recent years, blending young talents with experienced players to build a competitive squad. Their disciplined performances have reignited national optimism that South Africa could make its first World Cup appearance since 2010, when the country hosted the tournament.

With just two crucial fixtures remaining, Broos is focused on maintaining momentum and ensuring his side finishes strong to secure their ticket to North America.
