As Nigeria enters 2026, citizens have outlined clear expectations from President Bola Tinubu amid lingering economic hardship and rising insecurity. Despite the president’s New Year message promising gains from ongoing reforms, many Nigerians say tangible relief must follow.
A legal practitioner, Sylvester Agih, urged transparent implementation of new tax laws and accountability in the use of public funds. Others, including entrepreneurs and journalists, called for decisive action against banditry and terrorism, noting worsening insecurity in states like Kwara and Kaduna.
Farmers and small business owners appealed for affordable fertilisers, improved electricity supply and stronger protection in rural areas. Concerns were also raised over unemployment, alleged favouritism in public sector recruitment and the rising cost of food and fuel.
Some citizens demanded strict enforcement of local government autonomy, while others expressed scepticism about expecting change. Overall, Nigerians want improved security, fair governance and economic relief to define 2026.
