14 Nigerian States on Flood Alert as FG Issues Urgent Warning — Is Your Community on the List?

The Federal Government has sounded an urgent flood warning for several communities across 14 Nigerian states, following forecasts of heavy rainfall between September 4 and 8, 2025.

The alert was issued in a Thursday statement by the National Flood Early Warning Centre (FEWS Centre) of the Federal Ministry of Environment. Signed by Usman Abdullahi Bokani, Director of the Ministry’s Erosion, Flood, and Coastal Zone Management Department, the statement cautioned that heavy downpours could trigger flooding in vulnerable areas.

  • Kano (Gwarzo, Karaye)
  • Zamfara (Anka, Gummi, Kaura Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi, Bukuyum)

The Ministry urged stakeholders and state governments to remain on high alert and provide feedback on flood-related developments.

Speaking at the end of their 12th meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, forum chairman and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, said climate forecasts point to dangerous flooding in the coming months.
