💥 Tragedy in Ebonyi: Gunmen Kill Middle-Aged Man as Police Launch Probe, Local Govt Slams Extrajudicial Killings

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the brutal killing of a middle-aged man, David Anoke, by unidentified gunmen in Okposi community, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The incident, which occurred over the weekend at the Court Area in Okposi, has sparked outrage and heightened security concerns in the community.

Police spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the killing on Monday in a text message to Channels Television. He assured the public that investigations had commenced and security personnel had been deployed to restore calm.

“Yes, the command is investigating the killing of one person in Okposi. Meanwhile, officers have been deployed to the area and normalcy has since returned,” Ukandu stated.

Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Ohaozara LGA, Ajah Chinonso-Consider, condemned the attack, warning that extrajudicial killings in the area must stop.

“Ohaozara has always been a land of peace, unity, and development. We cannot allow criminal elements to destroy this reputation or destabilize our people,” he said.

He further urged residents to remain calm and assured that both federal and state security agencies were working swiftly to track down the perpetrators.

As a proactive security measure, the local government imposed a motorcycle (bike) and tricycle (keke) curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily in and out of Okposi to curb criminal movements and protect residents.

Chinonso-Consider appealed to traditional rulers, civil society groups, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to support security agencies in restoring peace.

“We do not have any other home but Ohaozara, and together we must protect it from the menace of extrajudicial killings, violence, and criminal activities,” he stressed.
